High up in the rolling hills of Texas Hill Country is where Balcones Roofing & Remodeling began sits a special chunk of earth. Karl, the owner, moved to the Austin area in 2019 from Columbia, SC where he worked as a studio artist. He let go of all his possessions & lived in a small Starcraft camper he had purchased before moving which also served as his office while he grew his roofing business. 

His campsite sat on undeveloped 4.5 acres in Spicewood. While power was available, running water & other amenities were not. The only structure on the land was an old 700 square foot rusty garage with a lot of potential. That garage would later play a pivotal roll in the growth of Balcones Roofing & Remodeling.

Karl & his fiancé, Heather, fell in love with the land which overlooks Lake Travis so when the opportunity came about to make it theirs, they did just that. Bursting with wild flowers in the spring & summer, large twisting live oaks & an abundance of active wildlife made the idea of an urban office space in the city just wouldn't cut it.

Karl began his roofing career in 2012 with a large roofing outfit in Columbia where he handled sales, job site management, insurance claims & customer relations. His time with a larger company was great but he knew there had to be a better way. His experience & dedication to quality, service, commutation & efficiency led to the idea that a roofing company doesn't have to be big to be the best. Balcones was designed from the beginning to be hyper focused on what matters most.

Today, that old garage has been fully converted into a rustic open-air workspace and is part of a much larger vision to have a live/work/play compound. Already complete with a tiny home living quarters, storage, laundry, bathroom, outdoor shower, & tons of open outdoor space, more is on the way. Oh, & let's not forget... running water! 

Karl felt it was important to keep the office where it all started. This space provides so much more than just somewhere to work, but somewhere to escape to at the same time. Balcones has 6 employees now & has grown solely from word of mouth & reputation. 

Balcones prides itself in truly being a family-owned & operated business. Karl's two younger brothers, Kevin & Kyle, have joined to add fuel to our mission in becoming Austin's go-to for roofing & more! We hope to meet & work with you soon!
